It opens with Headhunters – a Norwegian thriller based on the novel by best-selling author Jo Nesbo.

The season continues with a rare chance to see the multiple-Oscar winning 1944 classic Casablanca on the big screen on July 8.

And then a treat for all fans of historical action films with the recent Japanese production 13 Assassins set in Feudal Japan on August 12.

All Film Club screenings are on Monday nights at Nantwich Civic Hall.

The hall has upgraded its equipment with a new screen and dedicated movie sound system, making the big screen experience better than ever.

Doors open at 7pm and tickets are £5. Civic Hall bar will open before the film.

The team tackled woodland areas by the River Weaver footbridge off St Anne’s car park and Shrewbridge Road car park.

The attractive sites are popular with walkers and residents, but have been blighted by litter.

Volunteers collected mountains of fast food packaging, bottles, cans, discarded dog poo bags, sweet papers and more.

“Volunteers worked enthusiastically to transform these areas,” said a spokeswoman.

“To reinforce their efforts the Litter Group strongly urge people to use the litter and dog bins provided.

“Afterwards coffee, refreshments and a chat were welcome at Enzo cafe in Nantwich square!”

The next Group Pick will be at 10am on Wednesday May 29.

New volunteers are welcome and litter picking kit can be provided.

The group is increasing in numbers, but needs more people to tackle the growing litter problem.

They say rubbish from takeaways, crisps, sweet wrappers, cans and bottles are having a major impact on the environment.

The litter group, which has been in operation for about two years, has made a significant contribution to tidying up the town, parks and open spaces.

Growing volunteer numbers has enabled the group to tackle many more “grot spots” on an ad-hoc basis, said a spokeswoman.

“Predictably the main litter problem encountered is from food and drink packaging such as takeaways, crisps, sweets, cans and bottles.

“Litter bins are provided and emptied by Streetscape, Cheshire East Council’s street cleansing department and should be used wherever possible.

“Where no convenient bin is available then rubbish should be taken home for disposal. Litter is an unsightly, unhygienic and anti-social problem that affects everyone and is the responsibility of all.

“An appeal is made to all residents to play their part by picking up the odd item of rubbish that they may see in the street or outside their property and putting it in a nearby litter bin – every little helps.”

The next “Group Pick” is on Wednesday April 24 at 10am outside the Civic Hall.

New volunteers are always welcome and litter picking kit can be provided.

The session should last for approximately an hour followed by coffee and a chat.

The energetic session will take place on Tuesday April 30 at the Beam Street venue.

Diddi Dance use action songs, dancing and games accompanied by funky pop songs to get little ones dancing and improving their rhythm and co-ordination.

The session starts at 10.30am and is open to all pre-school children.

It takes place in Wistaston Memorial Hall on Church Lane this Saturday April 13 from 1.30pm to 3.30pm.

There will be unique knitted cat toys, Cats Protection merchandise, Bric-a-Brac, new children’s and craft stall, and new pamper stall.

Other stalls will sell cards and candles, will feature wildlife conservation, cakes, tea and coffee, raffle prizes and more.

All funds raised are to go towards the Cats Protection Crewe & District charity.

Classes are being held every Thursday at 8pm at Brine Leas High School in Audlem Road.

And on Wednesdays from 8pm they will be held in Wistaston Memorial Hall, Church Lane, Wistaston.

And international Tai Chi Warrior Jason Chan dropped in to open Celestial Radio at its new base on Beam Heath Way.

The not-for-profit station is run by staff at the neighbouring Celestial health and wellbeing centre, as well as volunteer helpers.

And Parveen Smith, director of Celestial Radio, says it is going from strength to strength.

“We have a wonderful team of presenters and those who work behind the scenes,” said Parveen.

“The youngest presenter is only seven years old  - and the oldest is 83!”

Celestial Radio presents shows on food, health matters, psychic chat shows, spiritual messages, power of crystals, story times, poems, pet shows, history shows, and book reviews.

“We are an internet-based radio station but people do listen to us on phones and itunes and via DAB radio,” added Parveen.

“We started as an all ladies radio station broadcasting out to as many people that wanted to hear us as a spiritual and well being radio station.

“We have been constantly evolving. Now I have men, women and children presenting shows. I generally work minimum of 40 hours a week to run my station. It is a delight and a pleasure.”

The 26-year-old was elected along with new committee members at the club’s AGM.

The new members are a big boost to the club which plans it’s next showing at Nantwich Civic Hall on Monday April 8.

Multi-award winning movie “Silver Linings Playbook” will be on show that night following its Oscar success.

It was a unanimous choice among the committee members.

Joe, 26, said: “I only moved to Nantwich last year because there is so much going on in the town. As a film enthusiast, I wanted to support the Film Club’s screenings.

“I never imagined I’d become chairman of the club but I really want to make sure that we can continue what we’re doing now and grow the number of people who regularly attend showings.

“It’s easy to get in touch with us via email, Twitter and Facebook and we love to hear from anyone who has film and event suggestions or is interested in supporting the club or joining our upcoming social events.”

The club puts on a monthly screenings in Nantwich and shows independent releases and classic films at the Civic Hall which has had a new sound system for film showings.

The club is run by enthusiasts for the local community and will be announcing the rest of its Spring/Summer Film season shortly.

Next showing is Monday April 8, “Silver Linings Playbook“. All films begin promptly at 7.45pm.

Workshops on Wednesday April 3 and Thursday April 4 will have as their theme Easter spring time crafts.

Further workshops will take place on Wednesday April 10 and Thursday April 11 with activities based on the work of Nantwich artists.

The workshops for children are drop in at the museum between 11am to– 3pm.

The cost is £2 per child who must be accompanied. Large groups are requested to book in advance.
