A Nantwich care home has been given the thumbs up in their latest Care Quality Commission (CQC) report.

Inspectors say Richmond Village Nantwich, on St Joseph’s Way, met all standards after carrying out an unannounced visit.

Inspections examine all aspects of care, with both residents and their families asked for their views on what it is like to live at the facility.

One resident was quoted in the CQC report: “Living here has made me realise how lonely it was living on my own.”

Lynne Griffin, manager for Richmond Village Nantwich, said: “We pride ourselves on offering the very best personal care for our residents.

“However we also notice how people’s health improves due to the social interaction and variety of activity and events that we organise on a daily basis.

“We recognise the social side is just as important as the care.”

The snow didn’t stop people from making the journey to Richmond Village Nantwich to watch ‘Alice in Wonderland’.

And the production had the audience laughing at Alice’s adventures in a wonderland full of interesting characters and songs.

All money raised from the show, which was written and directed by Fred Allman, was donated to the Air Ambulance charity.

The cast were great, enjoying the panto experience and whatever it threw at them!

‘Alice’ was played by Rosalind Ratcliffe, a determined and valiant performance as Rosalind had lost her voice earlier in the week.

However, helped along by Alison Harding the show could still go ahead.

The wonderful comic characters of ‘Tweedle Dum’ and ‘Tweedle Dee’ were played by Beverley Morris and Nicola Tooke.

The audience loved the tart making scene and both actors looked at home on the stage.

Well done to everyone at Richmond Village who was involved with the show.

Fred Allman has once again produced a funny, well written show which was enjoyed by everyone.

Alice in Wonderland will be the fifth pantomime staged at the residential care complex off London Road.

It features staff, friends and family including Rosalind Ratcliffe, Richmond Village hairdresser, who is taking the lead role as Alice.

Rehearsals started in October, with the show written, directed and produced by Fred Allman, who last year reached the finals of the Great North West Care Awards.

Fred said: “The pantomime is a little later this year as rehearsals were interrupted by a bout of illness over the Christmas period.

“However we hope people will come along to enjoy the production as everyone has worked very hard over the past months.”

There will be two performances, on Friday January 18 at 7pm and Saturday January 19 at 3pm.

Tickets are £5 for adults and £2.50 for children which are available at reception on 01270 629080.

Staff at a children’s centre near Nantwich are appealing for the donation of soft toys for Christmas.

The Wingate Centre in Wrenbury gives out thousands of toys to children who stay at the centre throughout the year.

The facility offers respite care for youngsters with disabilities who value the soft toys they are given and is a reminder of their stay.

Richmond Village, Sainsbury’s and local community-based Cat Radio are supporting the appeal.

Soft toys can be taken to Sainsbury’s store on Middlewich Road, Nantwich or Richmond Village, off London Road.

Olwyn Payton, Sainsbury’s spokeswoman, said: “We hope this year’s appeal will result in as many toys as last year.

“The toys can be new or second hand, as long as they are in good condition.”

Chaps at a Nantwich residential home have been ditching the razors – to raise money for Movember!

Male residents and staff at Richmond Village Nantwich are taking part in Movember to boost funds for men’s health charities.

Blokes taking part are supposed to grow a moustache for the whole of November.

And despite a slow start, the moustaches are now coming on well with some resembling those seen in old Western movies while others are slightly more refined.

Village advisor Nicola Tooke said: “It is strange seeing familiar faces sporting facial hair and becoming more and more hirsute.

“Obviously, the female residents and staff are supporting their efforts by becoming “Mo-sisters” and encouraging them in their fund-raising efforts through sponsorship.”

Anyone wishing to support members of the Richmond Village team should visit the Movember website and follow the link http://uk.movember.com/team/582309.
